Foundation
Hills Bros. was founded by Austin and Reuben Hills in San Francisco in 1878 — a decade before the city had reliable electricity. They pioneered vacuum-packed canned coffee, a technology that fundamentally changed how Americans bought and stored coffee. Before Hills Bros., coffee went stale on the shelf. After Hills Bros., it didn't.
Innovation
That innovation made Hills Bros. a household name across the American West and eventually the whole country. For generations, it was the coffee that sat on the counter in American kitchens — the can you saw at your grandmother's house, the dark roast that fueled the early shift.
Today
Today, Hills Bros. is part of Massimo Zanetti Beverage USA. The heritage is intact — 148 years of uninterrupted production, and one of the longest continuously sold coffee brands in the United States. But Hills Bros. isn't just the red can anymore. The cappuccino line turned an afternoon ritual into a category — 13 varieties and counting, from French Vanilla to seasonal limited runs. Two product lines, one legacy of doing coffee right.
